    RESEARCH FOCUS

My research focuses on assessing the health status of sea turtles from the Eastern Pacific.  More specifically, I am interested in the bioaccumulation and detoxification of halogenated organic contaminants in 4 speceis of turtles found along the coasts of the Baja California Peninsula.

Kristine Richardson is releasing a green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas agassizii) captured during a monitoring survey in Laguana San Ignacio, Baja California Sur, Mexico.  Blood and tissue samples collected are used to assess the health status of Eastern Pacific sea turtle populations.  Kristy, working with Dr. Dan Schlenk, will contibute to this assessment by investigating accumulation and metabolism of anthropogenic contaminants in sea turtles.
